My new compositions featured tonight (28 June) on The Rolling Wave, RTÉ Radio 1 @ 9:00pm

During the lockdown I was commissioned by producer, Aoife Nic Cormaic, of the RTÉ Radio 1 traditional music programme, The Rolling Wave and by the Irish Traditional Music Archives to compose a piece of music inspired by my impressions on the COVID-19 lockdown for a special Rolling Wave Show called Faoiseamh (which means ‘respite’ or ‘relief’).
I composed An Grianstad / The Halting Sun, a slow air into a contemplative slow reel.
It was such a joy to mill it through my head over a few months and it all came together on the eve of the Summer Solstice last week, hence the title, which means The Solstice in English. I then asked my neighbour, the talented Manus Lunny, to accompany me to record it on the Solstice.
So I’m a bit apprehensive as to how it’ll be received… always more sensitive when debuting my own composed music.
Please listen in this evening at 9pm (Irish time) and tell me what you think. If you’re listening outside of Ireland, you can tune in on the RTÉ Radio 1 website. You will also be able to listen to the programme after on the RTÉ Radio Player for a few days.
Go raibh maith agaibh,
