Hello Mairead! I wish you calm and peaceful holidays and a creative and successful new year!
Your album is great. I hope there will be a following one in 2010.
In honest admiration fopr you, your wonderful voice and music, your true German fan, Otfried.
Dear Maireád,
You may or may not remember me. You played for Alison and me at the Irish Folk Club Munich many years ago when both Altan and the Folk Club were in their fledgling years. I am taking the liberty of contacting you about another fledgling project: Greenfarm Festival.
Greenfarm Festival is three years old now and looking forward to celebrating festival number 4 next year from 18. – 20. June 2010. In those three years, the folk festival has managed to become the most important of its type in southern Germany. The festival takes place over three days on an organic farm east of Munich, Germany and is about 15 minutes drive from Munich airport. Check out
The festival is a non-profit venture organised by a team of members, voluntary helpers and supporters of the German Irish Friendship Society >www.dif-bayern.de>. We attract thousands over the three days due to the fact we charge a very low entrance fee but this also means that we have to rely heavily on outside sponsorship to finance the event. As you probably know, sponsorship is very hard to come by in these times of deep recession.
For performing groups, we provide stage & sound, marketing & networking facilities, adequate festival food & beverage, accommodation, excellent media coverage and the possibility of networking with musical colleagues at the many daily and nightly sessions.
I would have a budget of €2500 available Altan or €600 for Maireád Ní Mhaonaigh for 2010 and would be grateful if you could let me know if you would be interested in taking part in a our festival.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Best wishes and take good care.

I listened to the recording Irish Jigs, Reels, and Hornpipes by Michael Gorman and Willy Clancy. It has 13 tracks and was recorded in 1956 by Smithsonian Folkways which is a record company in the United States. It is entirely instrumental without any singing. After listening to samples on the website folkways.si.edu/, I hear similarities between your music and this recording. I was wondering if you have this recording or ever listened to it. I plan to get this recording through the library and listen to it in its entirety.
I also listen to Cape Breton folk music recordings which I get through the library which is from Nova Scotia, Canada. I also hear similarities between the folk music from this region and your music. I was wondering if you have ever listened to Cape Breton folk music or have any recordings of Cape Breton folk music.
Mairead, I just want to send a note to let you know how much I enjoy your music. As an American of Irish ancestry, your music touches my soul in a very special way. Thank you for simply being you.

I have Loved Altan and Mairead for the past twenty years and for the next twenty to come!
Hi from the U.S.
I've been following your music with Altan for quite some time now,and own every album. The best of all the Irish bands in my oppinion.....anyway I was on "youtube" checking for videos of you guys and wasn't disappointed having found several...however I guess you're no longer together....sad......but I was very excited to hear that you had done an album on your own. I got this web address from one of your interviews and here I am. Of course I bought your new album, and can't wait to recieve it! You have the most beautiful voice and style I have ever heard......God bless, and please keep on singing..........
Mairead
Just been following you on the BBC transatlantic sessions and when you sang your father's composition in Gaelic it sent a shiver down my spine - it was absolutely beautiful.
Can't wait to see you live.
best wishes, Reg.
Dear Mairead
I owe you a huge debt of gratitude for first introducing me to your music. I have always been a music lover, but was not over-familiar with traditional Irish music until I first heard 'Harvest Storm' and saw you play on Celtic Connections. Since then, I have taken every opportunity to widen my knowledge of what you play and how to play it. Your music is true, 'from the heart' music, and I love it. God bless you for it.
